" There are short-cuts to Happiness - and Dance is one of them! " - Vicki Baum
Why Dance?
There is a natural pleasure in discovering your own dance - especially one that is spontaneous, easy and fun!Through simple movement, a connection is made to a deeper joyful expression and there are opportunities to find and follow your own unique ways of being. Space2dance offers a permissive space that encourages a greater sense of personal freedom within - whether choosing to dance alone, with a partner or the group.
Moving the body helps to calm the busy mind and there are many health benefits directly linked with both dance and music, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual ones. You may well leave feeling more whole, renewed and happy - a great antidote to the stresses of modern life! These are just some of the benefits of coming to dance.
What happens?
At Space2Dance, there are no steps to learn and you are encouraged to go at your own pace. Warm-up music begins at 7:30, giving a half hour to warm up, stretch or dance. This is an important part of the session where people arrive and begin to make connection with breath and body, finding transition into movement. At 8pm, we will have a brief opening circle introducing ourselves and I will offer a simple theme for the evening.
(Please note there is no admittance after 8pm). If you wish to chat to someone, please do so in the lobby area as this can be distracting whilst others dance, thank you.
Then the main part of the dance class begins where my aim is to offer a balance of guided structures and free space to let go and boogie. The music begins gently, giving time and space to unwind, and get in touch with feeling and connection to your self. I will gently guide you towards your own dance, while helping you listen to what it is your body wants to do. Gradually, the music will build in tempo and energy midway through, then becoming more playful, and later, towards the end of the evening, the experience becomes deeper and more meditative.
At this point, people often discover an inner peace and harmony - an experience beyond words - supporting feelings of calmness, wholeness and even a freer sense of self. This connectivity can lead to a deeper sense of creative potential and freedom to flourish towards your true nature and expression, in a sense, discovering something new!
All that is required is a willingness to let go and experience the pleasure of discovering more of yourself through moving to beautiful rhythms and melodies, from world music and trance to tribal, pop to meditative. Music is carefully selected each week to carry you through a dance journey with a beginning, middle and end.
We will complete the evening with a quiet closing circle and opportunity to reflect - and perhaps share something of your dance experience, if you feel moved to do so.
Space2Dance is available and possible to everyone regardless of age, ability or experience.
